Esalen Journal + Practice Book
I created a concept for a quarterly journal plus accompanying practice booklet, wrote a how-to manual for the future editor including editorial guideposts, design principles and suggestions for how to plan issues. I also led a small editorial team to create and print a sample issue.
HRDCVR
I managed the flow of submissions and worked with editors to get the stories into final for this 200-page, hardcover single-issue publication. I also managed and edited the photography, set up a production schedule and saw the magazine through to the printer and into distribution.
Put A Egg On It
I cofounded this independent food magazine 12 years ago and have been working as its editor-in-chief and photography editor ever since. I am also the person in charge of the production calendar and organizing all of our contributors and other staff members.
SALT
I worked as a managing editor on this newsprint magazine for Momo Sushi Shack in Brooklyn. I also mentored its young editors, helping solidify the concept and teaching them all the steps needed to get from idea to printed and final piece. I also did all the photography.
Young Dancer + Dance Magazine
At Dance Magazine, I started as a production manager, then associate art director, then pitched the idea of making a kids magazine about dance, got a budget, hired a team and became the editor-in-chief of Young Dancer. After two years of that, I moved back over to Dance Magazine as an associate editor, focusing on post-modern dance and performance art. I received a deep education on every aspect of magazine-making during my six years here.
Misc. Zines
I’ve been making self-published zines since I was a teenager — many of them focus on my own personal writing and photography and others are anthologies of multiple artists’ work focused on a central theme.
